Trying out a Plant-Based Diet & 1/2 Marathon Training

So as I mentioned in a previous post, I’m currently training for the Las Vegas Rock n’ Roll 1/2 marathon. Yes yes, it’s not until the beginning of November, but this will be my first ever long distance run so I’m getting ahead of the usual training schedule.

Luckily for me I LOVE to exercise and push my body to new limits, so training has actually been quite fun for me. I’ve always been more of a sprinter so long distance is something completely new and exciting for me to start doing. So far I’m only up to 6 miles, but hey for me that is really an accomplishment!

It’s over 100 degrees after like 7am in Texas right now so I’m forced to log all my miles on the treadmill, which isn’t so bad considering I’m on a youtube video kick and the time has been flying by. The past few weeks I’ve been trying out a plant-based diet so watching Vegan “What I ate in a Day” Vlogs have been completely infatuating to me lately.

 

It’s kind of ironic that both of these new things have come in my life at once because I feel like when you think of Vegans you picture some un-athletic hippie eating tofu and drinking green juice.

Not the case at all. Eating a plant based diet has actually helped fuel me for my long runs more than I ever thought possible. Not having meat or dairy in my stomach weighing me down has released me from getting stomach cramps or pains in my side, and the higher carb lower fat foods that make up the majority of a vegan diet is actually the perfect fuel for a long cardio session.
