Boston Guide + Packing Tips

Hey Friends!  I just got back from our trip to Boston and I’m seriously so exhausted. We were only gone from Friday-Monday but it seems like we were there for a week. We had so much to fit in in a matter of a few days so we went non-stop every day.  We toured a total of 8 different apartment complexes, went to a John Mayer concert, and went to a bunch of different touristy spots, which was so much fun. Here are some pics from the weekend…

Beacon Hill^ the most picturesque part of Boston in my opinion 🙂

Post Brunch at the

Select Oyster Bar: Highly Recommend. SUCH a cute place! Sit at the bar and order a craft cocktail while you wait for your food!

I can’t pass a Nespresso shop without stopping in 🙂

exploring by the pier- great place to take photos!

Pier 6- Restaurant that over looks the water. We sat on the rooftop patio and it was such a gorgeous view! You HAVE to make reservations in advanced though!

Mauricio and I walked pretty much everywhere we went which was really good for us in terms of getting to know the city, but exhausted us even more.

On the bright side, it was good exercise at least!

Okay so here are some of my tips for getting the most out of your suitcase as well as making the most out of a single wardrobe piece.

Tip 1: Lay out your outfits before packing them so you know exactly what goes with what. Taking a picture also helps for when you need to quickly get ready on your trip.

Tip 2: Black bottoms. Black goes with anything, so if you need to keep the items you pack to a minimum, pack a great pair of black jeans and you’ll be able to get away with wearing them day or night.

Tip 3:Wear whatever top coat you need to bring on the plane. For me, I decided to bring my Pink Top Shop Rain Coat that I’m absolutely obsessed with, because it was raining the first day we got there and was also pretty windy the second. I wore it over almost every outfit because it kept me decently warm while also making even my casual outfits so much cuter ( I’ve gotten a ton of compliments and questions on this coat, unfortunately the pink is sold out but they do have it in a mint color!)

Tip 4: Pack a pair of heels that can be worn with multiple outfits. Okay this is the biggest bummer when I’m packing because I LOVE shoes. However, heels take up SO MUCH ROOM. So pack a pair that you can wear with multiple outfits and save yourself a ton of room for other necessities.

Tip 5: If it’s fall/winter where you are going, pack a leather jacket. Seriously this has been such a game changer for me during my last few visits to Chicago. Leather jackets make every outfit look more chic and they don’t actually take up that much room in the suitcase.

Tip 6: Don’t over-pack on the makeup. Okay so another thing that takes up a huge chunk of my suitcase is my makeup bag. Its just so bulky and whenever I try to add it to the top of my bag I feel like I’m squishing it in there. Pack only 1 of each item and try to fit it all in a purse-size makeup bag. No need to pack all of our various pallets, stick to single items.

Tip 7: Jewelry is key! Even though we are trying to be minimal on everything else we pack, jewelry is where I like to “over-pack” because it takes up very little room and can completely change an outfit. For example, one day I wore this little grey ruffle top with a simple gold choker then changed into a more noticeable green 4-layer choker for the evening time and I never even had to change my top 🙂

Okay so those are my top 7 tips that I’ve come up with over the past year of going back and forth to visit Mauricio and such. I definitely still feel like I over-pack a little, but its nothing like what I used to do!

What are y’alls top tips?

Love, Abby

  1. Love this! I just got back from a trip and I totally overpacked because I didn’t trust the weather forecast! I had clothes for every eventuality and wore half of them!

  2. Looks like a great trip. I’m dreading packing for my upcoming vacation. I have a work conference for three days, then I’m hiking in Utah for 7, then Vegas for 2…….How do I fit that in two bags?!

    • Omg you poor thing!!! That literally covers every possible type of outfit you need. Hopefully you can manage with 1 pair of tennis shoes, 1-2 pairs of work-appropriate heels, and 1 pair of going out heels. One time I had to go from a week long work conference to a bachelorette party in Vegas and my bag was SO over the weight limit. Good luck girl!
