Today marks 1 month eating no meat or dairy! People keep asking me if I miss it, but honestly it really hasn’t affected me at all unless I’m going out to eat. Even so, most restaurants offer a vegan/vegetarian option and if not I always ask to hold the cheese on my salad anyways, so now the only thing is finding one without meat or asking to substitute beans and avocado for the chicken.
I will admit that I’m a bit of a health nut and I’m also very sensitive to dairy products so this diet may be easier for me than most, but I still believe with practice anyone could make the switch if they just put forth the effort. Here is a day in the life example of what I eat in a day of Vegan/Plant Based eating. Side note: Today wasn’t the best example of what I eat in a day since I was gone from my apartment 3/4 of the day (which usually isn’t the case) so most of my meals were on-the-go…. but I had already decided to do a “what I ate” post today so I’m sticking to it…
6:30am: Wake up, hit snooze 3 times, get up and go to the gym. Today was a short run day so I did 30 minutes on the stair-master then 25 minutes of light jogging (about 3 miles)
7:30am: Drank 1/2 a Green Juice I had in the fridge from Buda Juice then had 1 cup of coffee
9:00am: Out the door for a 10:00 meeting in Farmers Branch
10:00am: New product launch meeting for Fall…. these new flavors are bomb! I wish the Bailey’s Pumpkin Spice was non-dairy 🙁 Bailey’s did recently come out with a non-dairy version called Bailey’s Almande, but so far they don’t have any flavors just the regular.
12:00pm (noon): Went to lunch at El Bolero in Dallas with my team and our new Regional Manager. I ordered a Salad with the dressing on the side, then kind of picked all the mango and avocado out of the Ahi-Tuna ceviche dish and put it in my salad along with the grapefruit slices that I assume were for decoration but whatevs. I knot that sounds kind of wasteful to order a dish and not eat much of the main part of it (the ahi-tuna) but since I just started going plant-based, I didn’t want to make a big show of asking for something vegan (especially with co-workers) so I just kind of picked around it as best as I could without looking too ridiculous.
** Side note: My opinion on eating fish is that yes it’s still animal cruelty (look up a video of what the fish go through if you’re interested) but when going out to eat with co-workers I’m not going to make a big show of ordering something off the menu, so just do the best you can and move on. If I’m eating 100% vegan at home, but then eating a little bit of fish here and there the few times I eat out, it’s still a step in the right direction.
3:00pm: In between account visits I stopped by Buda Juice and got another Green Juice. I pretty much always stick to #1 and #5 because they have they have the most health benefits for the price tag. If it’s a particularly hot day I splurge and go ahead and get the #4 as well which is basically a healthy lemonade. I still “sample” the rest of the flavors even though I know what I want though 🙂 I like the almond milk one but never buy it because $12 for almond milk is just ridiculous.
5:00pm: Ate 1/2 of a Honey Mustard flavored Kind Bar that I had in my purse, as I sat in dreadful Friday traffic.
7:00pm: For dinner I had a stir fry mixture of Quinoa, Broccoli, and Root Vegetable Medley with Coconut Aminos, Bragg’s Aminos, and Nutritional Yeast on top.
8:00pm: Drinks with friends at Katy Trail Outpost (I pretty much always order the same thing- Ketel One and Soda with a splash of Pineapple)
11:30pm: I always eat a snack before bed… so don’t let anyone tell you this is what makes you fat. I NEVER go to bed without a snack, otherwise I wake up at 3am hungry and that’s just miserable. So tonight I made Vegan “Icecream” consisting of 1 scoop Vega-One Vanilla Protein Powder, Ice, Almond Milk, Stevia, and a pinch of Guar Gum (thickening agent). I topped the bowl with Muesli and raisins which I have grown to loveeeee. I used to HATE raisins with a passion but now I love them.
And there it is, a full-day of eating vegan-ishhhh.
Anyone else trying to cut out meat or dairy?
